Some homes have the perfect layout and square footage—but that’s where the appeal stops. That was exactly the case for these clients, who had been waiting years for their dream floor plan to become available in their beloved La Quinta, California vacation home community. The moment it hit the market, they jumped on it! But there was just one little problem... the décor had to go.
They envisioned a desert-rustic retreat with warm autumn hues, plenty of room to entertain, and a fresh blend of new and existing furnishings.
Expertly Designed Custom Home Renovations
Opening Up the Heart of the Home
The first order of business? Goodbye, corner fireplace. Hello, breathtaking views! We replaced it with a disappearing sliding glass window, instantly connecting the great room to the stunning outdoor landscape.
To bring in warmth and character, we swapped out the dated carpeting for solid wood floors in a striking herringbone pattern. Custom cabinetry, complete with floating shelves flanking the new fireplace, was designed to match the home’s existing millwork for a seamless blend of old and new.

The original kitchen felt cramped and crowded, so we opened it up—literally.
We: Removed the curved end caps for a more streamlined look.
Added a waterfall edge to the island with jaw-dropping granite slabs.
Took out the overhead soffits to create more vertical space.
Incorporated statement pendant lighting for a touch of elegance.
Repurposed their existing barstools by reupholstering the seats and refinishing the legs, ensuring they felt brand new.
Of course, no large-scale renovation is complete without a “Wait… what?!” moment. In this case, it was discovering missing travertine flooring beneath the removed cabinetry. Finding a 15-year-old travertine match was no easy feat, but after some serious detective work, we pulled it off flawlessly.
Primary bath goals: spa-like & stunning
The huge built-in jacuzzi tub? Gone. In its place? A freestanding soaking tub that instantly elevated the space. And that statement light fixture? Because who doesn’t love a little bling-bling in their bathroom?!
For added functionality, we included custom floating shelves above built-in drawers, providing extra storage without sacrificing style. Underfoot, we installed a linen-textured tile that feels as good as it looks.
Blending Custom Craftsmanship with Old-World Charm
The home’s existing wood cabinetry was in excellent condition, so rather than replacing it, we opted for a custom stain with a glazed finish, carrying it throughout the home. In the kitchen, we reconfigured the island and removed the original seating to add open shelving—perfect for showcasing a curated cookbook collection.
And let’s talk about the backsplash! The crackle-finish tile and custom motif design brought just the right amount of Old-World charm, complementing the rich tones of the granite slabs that my client fell in love with (which, by the way, became the entire design’s inspiration!). With the soffits gone, we installed aged brass pendants, adding the perfect finishing touch.
Final Touches That Made All the Difference
Refinished all cabinetry throughout the home.

Updated all walls, doors, and trim with new paint.
Upgraded recessed lighting throughout.
Replaced multiple plumbing & electrical fixtures for a modern refresh.
